PESHAWAR: A lawmaker of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has apparently not kept his promise for not getting monthly salary and other allowances as he has yet to give in writing about this to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat thus far.

Besides, Khyber Pakh-tunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who is also provincial president of the ruling PTI, had announced that he would donate his salary to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. However, he too has not submitted any letter to the officials concerned to send his salary to the said hospital.

According to reliable sources, the first salary of the newly-elected provincial assembly members has been transferred to their respective banks accounts.Elected to Khyber Pakh-tunkhwa Assembly on PTI ticket from PK-3 Peshawar, Javed Nasim had announced that he would not draw his monthly salary and other allowances and would serve the people without any greed or incentives.

“I am an ordinary man and come from a lower middle family but this is what I can contribute to Naya Pakistan,” Javed Nasim had told The News before taking oath as member of the assembly.

Javed Nasim, who was serving as a manager in an insurance company, had defeated the strong and resourceful Haroon Bilour of the Awami National Party (ANP) in May 11 polls. However, Javed Nasim has now changed his mind as he told this scribe that he would draw his salary and other allowances and would distribute it amongst the needy and poor of his constituency.

“As my salary will automatically transfer to my bank account so I cannot stop it and now I have made up my mind to distribute it amongst the poor of my area,” said Javed, who was not registered voter of the constituency from where he contested the last elections.

“My pledge about not drawing salary had drawn objections even from my own colleagues and party activists,” he maintained. According to information obtained from provincial assembly secretariat, a member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is entitled to monthly salary (compensatory and other allowances) of Rs35,000 and is also paid Rs1,000 per day allowance when the assembly is in session or for attending assembly committee meetings. Those lawmakers who are not staying at the MPAs Hostel also get Rs1,600 per night during the assembly session. It is also learnt that Javed Nasim has been appointed as parliamentary secretary for Local Bodies and Rural Development. This would entitle him to extra perks and privileges.
