Khattak accused of victimising political opponents

NOWSHERA: Pakistan People’s Party provincial general secretary Liaqat Shabab has termed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission as a tool to victimise political opponents.
“I was arrested on charges of committing corruption of Rs5 billion, but after 35 days of investigation the authorities failed to prove any corruption against me,” he told reporters at his hujra on Saturday, a day after being set free by court on bail.
Mr Shabab accused Chief Minister Pervez Khattak of politically victimising his opponents. Replying a question, he said he knew that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak would send him behind the bars as I used to criticise him for ditching the PPP at a difficult time after staying in it for 18 years.
“The Ehtesab Commission is especially designed to push political opponents against the wall,” he said.
The PPP leader alleged that government officers and other private people were being forced to give statements against the former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and chief secretary in corruption cases.
“The mandate of Ehtesab Commission is to take up corruption cases from as far back as 2004, but the PTI-led government only picked him for corruption, which is very strange and shows that the chief minister is victimising his close rivals.
Liaqat Shabab condemned the PTI claims of bringing change in the society and said the provincial government had badly failed to fulfill the promises made with people during the last general elections.
