Imran formally inaugurates KP Green Growth Initiative project

PESHAWAR: Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan Sunday formally launched Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Green Growth Initiative (GGI) to bring maximum areas under plantation by planting two billion trees in the province in five years.
The Green Growth Initiative, a unique project of its kind in the history of the country, also include measures including setting up of national parks, vlauing KP forest resource aimed at offseting the challenges of galobal warming and climatic change, said Malik Amin Aslam, Coordinator Green KP Initiative in his presentation about the mega project.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Pakistan Forest Institute, University of Peshawar. Chief Minister, Pervez Khattak, provincial Ministers including Shah Farman, Shaukat Yousafzai, officials of Environment Department and members of PTI and members of Insaf Student Federation also attended the function in large number.
Speaking on the occasion, PTI Chairman said KP Green Growth Initiative is taken to address the enviornment problems being faced by our country in general and KP In particular.
Under this mega project, two billion saplings would be planted in the province over next five years with help of forest department, students, civil society organizations, educational institutes and other to make the province lush green, he added.
As per the plan, four important sectors, including increasing forest-covered area, protected green areas, parks, promotion of environmental tourism, increasing resources of energy and climatic changes and resilience would also be paid special attention.
Imran Khan also apprised the participants that Governor House of KP would be made as a special park for female. Similarly the existing parks in Peshawar would be cleared from land grabbers.
He said there would be complete ban on cutting of trees in national park and Safari parks would be set up in each district of the province to create awareness among masses about importance of wild species.
Imran Khan said his party wanted to transform Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from most vulnerable province to climatic change into a Most adoptive and for this purpose such measures would be adopted on warm footing.
He urged the members of ISF (Insaf Student Federation) to fully cooperate with the government in its efforts of improvining the enviornment of the province as without the help of youth no aim can be achieved.
He said its time to take environmental issue very seriously because around two hundred and fifty thousand children are dying annually in the country due to water borne diseases. Even in Pakistan, there is no proper sanitation system which is very deplorable.
Earlier, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said his government is taking measures on war footing to improve the living standard of people. We are working hard to fulfill our promises which we made with people at time of elections, he added.
Coordinator Green Growth Initiative, Amin Aslam also apprised the participants that a number of measures would be taken under this project for meeting the enviornmental challenges.
The project also include measures for increaing forest area from existing 20 percent to 30 percent in five years. Similarly, protected areas will be increased from existing 11 percent to 15 percent.
People will witness a Tree Tusanmi as two billion trees will be planted in the province in five years, he added.
